Who We Are
Slow Cook Sisters is run by Sally Thornton. Sally is a keen cook who is passionate about lovingly prepared, authentic, slow cooked food from all over the world.
The last 15 years have been a busy mix of raising children and running a catering business but Sally has dedicated the last couple of years to creating a commercial kitchen in her garden, purpose built for preparing home cooked meals. Now that Slow Cook Sisters are up and running, Sally is flat out shopping, chopping, cooking, packaging and delivering the finest and most nourishing meals for her community.
Our Food
We cook all of our meals just as we would if our friends and family were coming for dinner.
The recipes are carefully chosen and the meals are made in small batches with the finest quality local ingredients, plenty of time and lots of love.
Locally Sourced Fresh Ingredients
The raw ingredients are selected with great care.
The meat comes from our local butcher Enzo at Penny’s Prime Meats, fruit and veg come direct from the market for same day use and most of our herbs are handpicked from our kitchen garden.
We Take Our Time
Absolutely everything is done from scratch. No shortcuts here…grinding, toasting, chopping, browning, zesting, we do it all with our bare (well, sometimes gloved) hands.
The Slow Food Movement, originating in Italy, calls for a celebration of food that is locally grown, made to nourish the body and which is appreciated when eaten.
At Slow Cook Sisters, we take the utmost care and all the time we need to create small batches of the most delicious and nourishing Slow Food for you.
The meals are immediately frozen to keep the goodness in and to avoid the use of any preservatives.
Everchanging Seasonal Menu
Each fortnight, a new menu is released. The seasons and our own passions dictate the offerings.
Changing the menu keeps the business alive and exciting for us in the kitchen and for you at your dining table.
We always welcome feedback and requests and are very happy to keep bringing back customer favourites.
Creating Empowering Employment
Sally has long dreamed of creating a harmonious, multicultural workplace where refugee and asylum seeker women can work, gain skills and confidence, develop connections, and hopefully share with us the exotic cuisines of their homelands.
In working with the Common Ground Project's Staying Grounded program, Slow Cook Sisters are looking to provide employment and to help these women thrive and prosper in our community.
